I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’m working on a group cruise that includes ports in Portugal, Spain, and Morocco. We’re going in April 2025, and it is going to be the trip of a lifetime aboard the Star Pride. On Day 7 of our voyage, the Star Pride will dock in Malaga at 7AM, and we won’t pull out of port until 4PM on Day 8.
The extended time in Malaga gives us ample time to visit the birthplace of Pablo Picasso – a man whose artwork is instantly recognizable anywhere in the world.
Malaga is part of the Costa del Sol region in southern Spain known for wonderful beaches. Tourists from all over Europe come here for vacation.
Windstar has pre-arranged a number of excursions for purchase that explore Malaga and the surrounding region. You can work side by side with a chef to make Paella or cruise the city streets on a Segway.
For a deep dive into Picasso, visit the Museo Picasso Malaga. This museum was originally something Picasso desired to have opened in his lifetime, but it never came to fruition until 2003 – 30 years after his death. Most of the 200 plus works on display were donated by the Picasso family.
The museum is housed in Buenavista Palace – a historic building in the heart of Malaga’s historic quarter. The building has been many things in its 550 year history: hospital, school, furniture factory, family residence, and of course a museum.
An easy walk from the museum, you’ll find the church where Picasso was baptized and his childhood home.
In doing some research about Malaga and Picasso, I came across this New York Times article from earlier this year. The author, Andrew Ferren, traveled to Malaga for a Picasso Immersion tour to honor the 50 year anniversary of the artist’s death.
The goal of our trip was to walk among the spice markets in Morocco and ride a camel, but we’re getting a Picasso experience as a bonus!
Our itinerary is awesome, so join me, my family, and friends in 2025 for the trip of a lifetime. Send me a message to find out more.
